Understanding of Knowledge Federation

Overview
Object of KF
Knowledge Federation aims to make the federation of knowledge easier in different goal views.
- KF is a paradigm shift - not talk about scenarios
- What does it means to federate in the first place?
What is a Federation
Dialogue Maps from the discussions
[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turtles_all_the_way_down|Turtles all the way down]
- bring together Jack -> bring together without bias in a subject-centric view
- KF is a activity
Knowledge Federation is valuable free:
1. Allow subjective
- multiple views are possible => we can not claim objectivity
2. Ethical responsibility
- allow the community to have perspective that are important = measure them + actions against goals
- respect for different views
- nothing is ethical free
- we can not tell people what their ethics are
- => System require / supports user to make statements on values
- not supposed but shareable
- statement why we do something’s
3. Define Goals/Values
- in order to rate / structure the discourse
- Respect
- Truthfulness -> Usefulness
- “unbound love”
4. Make conventions
- invite people to discuss in the systems
- “not only talk but also make directed action”
Knowledge Federation
- a paradigm with a particular set of values TBD
- an activity/a process of bringing something objects of interest TBD together
- the result of the process = a state
values
- dialogue as a different mental stance: co-creation
- respect for and tolerance of other viewpoints
phenomena
- fragmentation, overcoming of
objects of interest (what shall be federated)?
- views/perspectives: co-creation of improved understanding
- semantic federation := “knowledge” / assertions := bringing together statements, fragmented in various ways and on several levels (assertions, made up of concepts interrelated with semantic relations, and their explicit relevance relations to resources; can be nested)
- services
- information/knowledge resources, memes, media elements
- explicit(?) knowledge silos (collections of statements?): their heterogeneity and subjectivity
- tools for facilitation of federation
characteristics of the certain objects (target resources)
- heterogeneity
- openness
- autonomy
- diversity
- without introducing bias
- ??? integration with preservation of all individual views, without forcing a particular view, with
purpose/goal
collective wisdom: intelligence for the common good insights and reflection fostering mutual understanding/sensemaking improved virtual unified views for different usages/contexts identification and management of appropriate views bringing together (and add value) establish annotated connections (bridges) between elements in knowledge silos improving the reusability and findability of knowledge (knowledge resources)
better understanding? save the planet??
how? subject-centric way?? metaphor-centric way??
methods/implementation level ontology mapping
synthesizing knowledge
credibility: value
discourse: communication processes about meaning/significance of something: means
reducing information overload (top of the mountain/info design): means and goal
Discussion
Dialogue Maps from the discussions in Compendium
Dialogue Map in the Cohere web app:
DINOs:
- we are not the neutral observor we think - we are part of the world and create a own world view for us we are responsible
Tanaka:
- reusablity problem
- how to extract/adress fragment
- how to customize = for fitting it into its reuse context
- how to coordinate them to work together to perform a required job
- knowledge federation without restriction of any of
- diversity
- heteogrniet
- anotonmy
- netword-distriubutin
- open to ressouce to open-resuse
Jack Park:
- Knowledge Gardingen = Key aspekts
- Tagging - Social Bookmakring, foraging, filtering
- Annotation - lifting adressable idas out of ressources = subject / topics
- connecting - link ideas cohereence relations, storytelling= wenn subjects are adressable it can be connectedc
- discourse - contesting assertions, asking / answering questions
- federation - maintainging a well-organized usinverse of discouse = create a map
Facets of Knowledge Federation
- Motivation / Philosophy
- Looking trough a mirror (DINO)
- we see the world & but we see our self as part of the world
- we understand that we are not neutral observer = appropriate perception
(be aware that ...)
- we understand that we are responsible for the world = how can we contribute to the world; create ideas
- mirror give a different view on the world = help to create a new view/
- we understand that world is incredible complex = much more than we can understand
- other side of the mirror = feel of action, if
- WE CAN GO THROUGH THE MIRROR; Step into the space
- world of Topic Maps/RDF has been created based on the assumption of the real side of the mirror
- basic assumption of a research: = cause-and-reaction & hope to understand the world
- Open the door = to communicate
- Mirror = try to escape the ??? assumptions?
- We sit on a cloud = everyone looks from a cloud to the world and create a personal view, if other do not agree we create groups
- Behind the mirror its different ...
- Thinking Space
- Blackboard = announce task - an another will solve the task
- Book “Smart Worlds”
- Space behind the mirror = Thinking Space
- Thinking Space defines the way where we want to go
- Space are constrains?
- What is the job of a knowledge federtation
- Say what the other world will look like?
- We give them tool to free people = helping them to go through the mirror; we are already there?
- free them from constrains
Perspective: Values
- Respect = no deletion, everything is there
- Support social processing
- NOT truthfulness BUT usefulness
- Story:
- political federation
- each have a individual identity (knowledge) + also group identify in federation
- book vs. wikipedia metaphor
- Alex
- we don’t know how the other side will looks
- support the intellectual mind
