Knowledge federation project Koios

Koios is an online collaborative tool for solving difficult social problems. All activities on Koios revolve around solving complex real world problems. To use Systems Thinking terminology: Complex problems are typically self-organizing, non-linear, constantly changing, history dependent, tightly linked, counter-intuitive, governed by feedback, resistant to change. Koios provides the tools to analyse and shift a difficult social situation towards a more optimal and sustainable future state.

The service consists of these 3 main components:

• Analytical and holistic problem solving.
• Organization and management of grass root movements.
• Bottom up distributed citizen science.

Status of project

Started in 2007 we are now 4 years into the project. Initial research into a vast number of fields including systems thinking have been done. State of the art, literature review and brainstorming on possible features has been done. We have received funding from the Norwegian Ministry of Government Administration, Reform and Church Affairs through the Nettskap2.0 program. A mock-up to help communicate our ideas has been developed. We are now in the process of refining our strategy and design before starting round one development of the first Alpha release.
