Venue and Travel

The Conference Knowledge Federation 2008 will be held in the Inter University Centre (IUC) in Dubrovnik, Croatia, October 20 - 22, 2008, with pre-conference event on Sunday, October 19.

Dubrovnik is an exquisitely beautiful travel destination with rich and interesting history.

The city is accessible through an international airport with direct flights from Zagreb (the capital) and several other European cities.

The airport bus stops on request at the Eastern gate of Dubrovnik Old City, a short walking distance from Villa Doda, then continues to the city bus terminal.

Details about the travel options from TMRA08 conference in Leipzig can be found here ...

Historically the place where the scientists from the (political) East and West could meet and exchange ideas, the Inter University Centre Dubrovnk has an orientation which harmonizes well with the purpose of our conference. The center is located within a five-minute walking distance from Dubrovnik Old City.

The recommended arrival date is Saturday, October 18, in order to participate in the pre-conference event. The recommended departure date is Thursday, October 23.

Travel Information

Accommodation

To provide shared accommodation which will facilitate personal interaction and maximize the authentic local experience, we are renting Villa Doda in the vicinity of the Centre that has several apartments, where we will then either share rooms or rent additional space in the neighborhood. The accommodation expenses will not exceed 40 Euro per day. For participants with an accompanying person I can reserve apartments in the neighborhood for 80-100 Euro per day.

As a higher-budget alternative, we recommend Hotel Grand Villa Argentina with view of sea and Dubrovnik Old City. We have gotten an excellent special rate - 150 Euro for a single room with the sea view (the non-discount rate is 238 Euro). Call +385 20 440 524, ask for Mrs. Daria Abjanic and say that you are a participant of Knowledge Federationo 2008.

Free Pre-Conference Event: Meeting Dubrovnik

Sunday October 19 we will be introduced to Dubrovnik by Suad Ahmetovic, an award winning journalist from Dubrovnik and the author of the acclaimed book "The Curiosities of Dubrovnik - 2000 years of history". During the centuries when the surrounding regions were occupied by the Turkish Empire, Dubrovnik remained an independent republic by a successful combination of commerce and diplomacy. Reserve the day for getting acquainted with Dubrovnik and its history.

We will begin the tour at 11 a.m. by the Eastern entrance into the (outer walls of the) Old City. Alternatively, we will meet for coffee at 10 a.m. in Gradska Kavana (City Cafe) in the Old City.

Conference Program

We are designing the conference to suit the idea of knowledge federation. In other words, the co-creation of the conference is part of the job that we are about to do together.

The conference will have a Sunday pre-conference event and three work days. Each work day will have article presentations in the morning and a workshop in the afternoon. The afternoon workshops will be focused on one design task each, where we will be creating solutions together.
